Start Windows XP System Restore From a Command Prompt
System Restore is a great utility to help "roll back" your Windows XP system to an earlier state, undoing any system changes that may have caused an issue.
Often times though, a problem is so bad that entering Windows XP normally is not possible so System Restore can not be run.
Fortunately, you can run System Restore from a command line interface in Safe Mode, without needing to fully load Windows XP.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Less than 30 minutes
Here's How:
1.
Boot to Windows XP Safe Mode With Command Prompt.
2.
At the Command Prompt, type C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe and press Enter.
3.
Follow the instructions given to perform the System Restore process.
